PEOPLE
and CUSTOMS
Croatians are very proud people and sincere
in their hospitality.
They offer warmth, honesty and generosity to visitors.
The crime rate is low, and it is not uncommon to see
car doors left open, bags on seats, windows wound down
and the owners unconcerned.
The country is well aware of the necessity to preserve
the very essence of the reason their country has become
popular. The mediaeval cities, archaeological sites
and parks of natural beauty are being conserved for
many years to come.
Food
The Croatian food is influenced by a combination of
Italian, Hungarian, Austrian, Turkish and Oriental cuisines.
Forms of cooking are most notable between those in
the coastal regions and inland. For example Northern
Croatia enjoys lots of spices due to the proximity to
Hungary.
Over 400 types of fish, fresh local produce (picked
from land ranked as the least polluted in Europe), and
superb wine growing regions make up an excellent healthy
diet.
Folk
Dances
Local folk groups perform their own dances, particular
to their region, in the main squares & plazas of
all tourist resorts throughout the summer.
The professional national folk song and dance ensemble
called LADO
was founded in Zagreb in 1949. They perform all the
traditional dances from around Croatia wearing different
regions’ costumes.
Lado is a synonym for the expression meaning “good”,
“lovable”
and “dear”.
